The 9 recognized dental specialties in Canada have formed a new association to provide a united voice for specialists in this country. The Canadian Dental Specialties Association (CDSA) will be comprised of a Board of Directors with 1 representative from each of the 9 specialty groups.

A formal announcement about the creation of the CDSA was made during the CDA Annual General Meeting in April. “Dental specialists are an important group of practitioners in Canada and CDA looks forward to working with the CDSA to help advance the profession in the future,” says Dr. Robert MacGregor, CDA president.

The CDSA will have a Voting Representative at official CDA meetings along with 2 representatives at the Dentistry Leaders Forum.

Dr. Aaron Burry of Ottawa was elected as the inaugural CDSA president. Dr. Burry is the CDSA delegate representing Dental Public Health.

The other members of the CDSA Board of Directors are: Dr. Calvin Pike, CDSA vice-president and delegate for the Canadian Academy of Endodontics; Dr. Ritchie Mah, CDSA secretary-treasurer and delegate for the Canadian Association of Orthodontists; Dr. Susanne Perschbacher, delegate for the Canadian Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology; Dr. John Perry, delegate for the Canadian Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Medicine; Dr. Francine Albert, delegate for the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada; Dr. Robert Barsky, delegate for the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; Dr. Frank Hohn, delegate for the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; and Dr. Hurd Stein, delegate for the Canadian Academy of Periodontology.
