A new application, developed by an assistant professor from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, functions as a digital replacement for the conventional facebow used to evaluate bite position.
Dr. Les Kalman and his team developed the Virtual Facebow app, which aims to improve the accuracy of measurements taken with a conventional facebow. The app also offers “an easy, efficient and economical way to assist with the diagnosis and treatment planning of all dental cases.”
According to Dr. Kalman, “Technology has an increased effect on dentistry—the Virtual Facebow represents an accessible digital approach to the mounting of casts and the acquisition of crucial clinical data.”
The app is a finalist in the Intel App Innovation Contest, an international competition for best app in the categories of healthcare, education, finance and retail. Winners will be announced in December.
