The dental branch of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has been renamed the Royal Canadian Dental Corps, marking a return to a name first granted by King George VI in 1947.

Previously known as the Canadian Forces Dental Services, the renaming continues the military’s recent decision to restore Royal designations to many of its official branches. Heritage names have also been restored for the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. The name changes within the CAF are part of a broader government initiative to commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the Second World War.
