Dr. Burton Conrod

Dr. Burton Conrod of Sydney, Nova Scotia, was awarded honorary membership by the American Dental Association (ADA) Board of Trustees at a ceremony held in Orlando, Florida, in October. The ADA grants honorary membership to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the art and science of dentistry.
“It is very humbling to be honoured by an organization that has done so much to improve global oral health,” stated Dr. Conrod.
Dr. Conrod is a CDA past-president. From 2007–09 he served as president of the FDI World Dental Federation—the first Canadian dentist to hold the highest position at FDI.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Conrod praised the efforts of ADA’s Global Affairs Department. “It took my experience at FDI to understand the tremendous contribution the ADA makes to dental organizations around the world,” he said. “I believe that the ADA’s international programs improve the practice environment for dentists across the globe, while also enriching the professional lives of dentists in the U.S.,” he added.
In April 2010, Dr. Conrod was recognized by CDA with a Medal of Honour. This award was created specifically to honour Dr. Conrod’s lifetime of service to the profession at the local, provincial, national and international levels.
