An article examining the use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) appeared on the front page of the New York Times on November 23.
If you receive an increase in patient queries on the use of x-rays in dentistry, you can refer to CDA's Position Statement on the Control of X-Radiation in Dentistry.
The overarching goal of this CDA statement is to ensure that dental offices comply with the ALARA principle ("as low as reasonably achievable"), and keep the amount of patient radiation exposure at as low a level as possible given current accepted radiological practice.
JCDA is also preparing a Point of Care article on CBCT, so look for this in the near future.
