It is with open arms, warm hospitality and Ciad Mile Failte (100 000 Welcomes) that we invite you to attend the CDA 2011 Convention: Navigating Tomorrow—New Visions, Historical Foundations, taking place August 4 to 6 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and co-hosted by the Nova Scotia Dental Association and CDA.

It has been said, "If you build it, they will come." The Convention's Local Organizing Committee has been working overtime putting the finishing touches on building an event that will appeal to all Canadian dentists, their families and the entire dental team.

Our checklist is getting smaller: the venue is set—The World Trade and Convention Centre; the host accommodations have been chosen—The Marriott Harbourfront Hotel; and the trade show and exhibition site is designated— The Metro Centre. These 3 venues are conveniently connected via a walkway that will allow you to spend quality time at the various sessions.

Dentists from across Canada should plan to attend the continuing education sessions that we have lined up, to learn more about recent advancements in oral health. Many of the CE speakers have agreed to provide JCDA with brief, narrated versions of their presentations—to give you an exclusive sneak preview of what to expect in Halifax. These audiovisual presentations can be accessed through the Editor's Blog section on jcda.ca.

The keys to the historic Citadel Fortress, perched atop the hill in the heart of downtown Halifax, have also been secured for the opening social event—a traditional ceilidh celebration. And the world famous East Coast lobsters are in training, guaranteed to be big and juicy for the closing social—an evening we're calling our lobster dinner and sand-less beach party!

We have covered all bases and feel fortunate to offer all of this in the beautiful and historic maritime city of Halifax.

The CDA Convention was previously hosted in Halifax in 1999 and I am sure it evokes fond memories for those who attended. That was an event full of fun, fellowship and friendship. A return to this city is long overdue and I hope you take the chance to renew acquaintances, to be enlightened about the latest trends in dentistry, and to relax, laugh and escape into a community steeped in history and hospitality.

The 2011 Convention promises to create new memories for those who return, and special memories for those coming to the East Coast for the first time. We encourage you to bring your families; come early and stay late. Take time to explore the picturesque and culturally rich province of Nova Scotia, where the heritage of the sea runs deep with real people, a rich culture, historic architecture and natural maritime beauty. All are close at hand, with shopping, entertainment and restaurants within easy walking distance of the Convention venues.

Visit the Convention website www.cdaconvention2011.com for all registration, social and scientific program details.

We await your arrival, sea you there!
